RWA Perpetual Futures Sobriety Test

July 31, 2026

RWA perpetual futures volume has reached a milestone: over half a trillion dollars in July, 2026. Is the growth sustainable? This report begins to answer that question by looking at RWA perpetual futures’ order flow balance.

We isolate RWA perpetual futures markets from crypto perps on Binance and Hyper- liquid, the largest venues by volume in the first half of 2026, and measure their order flow by three metrics, looking for signs of toxic order flow:

1. Taker buy / sell ratio.
2. Average trade size.
3. Volume consistency.

For liquidity providers and other institutions active in commodities and equities, RWA perpetual futures (“perps”) represent an opportunity to participate in digital assets markets, while hedging in markets that are familiar.

Order flow balance is a key factor for liquidity providers and other delta-neutral participants, evaluating these markets. Markets that lean persistently bullish or bearish increase the cost of maintaining delta-neutral positions.

Order flow imbalance and other symptoms of toxic order flow have a compounding negative effect on liquidity: market makers widen spreads, market resilience drops. The metrics covered in this report are valuable not only for liquidity providers and other delta-neutral traders, but for anyone watching RWA perpetual futures markets.
